  Get Clients by Giving
  By Jennifer Davey

Your business can’t exist in a vacuum.  To be successful, you need to be involved in a constant exchange of ideas, communications, and energy.  One great way to keep that exchange flowing is to Give. You can give by being grateful.

When you express gratitude to your clients and potential clients, you are giving to them and taking care of yourself at the same time.  This act of giving will lead you towards a more successful business.

Gratitude can be difficult to master.  Business and life can be tough.  When your business isn’t thriving, the last thing you may think about is gratitude, so you have to get proactive about it.  You can get proactive by doing the fieldwork assignment at the end of this article.

Gratitude is vital to a thriving business. It creates a feeling of satisfaction and happiness that results in doors opening for your business and – it PULLS clients to you.

Clients want an enjoyable and productive working relationship.  If they know that you appreciate them and their business, it creates a positive working relationship.  Your client will want to return to this feeling again and again.

Growing your business is tied to your ability to create powerful, strong relationships.  Think about it.  Even gigantic corporations like Apple work on relationship building with everyone who does business with them.  From programmers to stay at home moms who buy Macs, Apple is working on creating relationships.  Even large companies like Apple, who can’t rely on one-on-one relationship building, show gratitude by making their customers feel appreciated.  Most Apple users feel like they are a part of something.  As a smaller company you can get even more personal with your clients and customers.  Don’t neglect this important part of your business.

When you show gratitude towards a client or customer, they feel appreciated. Don’t overlook this sentence.  Having your clients feel appreciated by you is critical.  Would you stay in a personal relationship if you didn’t feel appreciated?  Clients and customers who feel appreciated will come back again and again.  Loyal clients are great clients.  They are the ones who become your “raving fans”. Not only do they come back to do business with you, they tell everyone they know about your business and what great results they get from working with you.  People love to tell stories about being treated with well.

Once you have a great relationship with a potential client, getting them as a client, keeping them as a client and getting referrals from them becomes easy.

Gratitude is a two way street. If you have a service provider you work with, show them your appreciation.  People work harder for those that appreciate them.

Being grateful is an all around positive goal for your life and business.  It will make you feel good and make those around you feel good.

Fieldwork Assignment

Write down what you are grateful for in your life and in your business. Creating a list of everything you are grateful for, will help you realize how much you have to be thankful for AND create an attitude that will attract more opportunities and clients.

    Hi Jennifer,

This is a great article as you have raised a subject that is often over looked by businesses. I think it helps to view clients as partners as both the organisation and the client are working towards a common goal in most cases.

The client normally buys the the service as a whole meaning the way you make them feel AND the services you offer. If you just offer a good service and treat every deal as a “transaction” there are more chances of losing that customer.

Expressing gratitude is the way forward for a long lasting business relationship and a positive mindset…
