What Do Those “@ #” Symbols on Twitter Mean?

No.. I am not swearing , its Twitter Shorthand.

The @ symbol is used as a public reply to or mention of another person on Twitter. For example:
It was so nice meeting @JenniferDavey this afternoon.
Or
@JenniferDavey, that is so funny!

The # symbol (the hashtag) is used to designate a topic. Anyone can create a topic. So if I was Twittering on getting clients, my Tweet look something like:
Do you know the Key Steps to Getting #Clients ? http://tinyurl.com/qez932
This hashtag would allow other Twitter users to search for the topic “Clients”.

RT stands for Re-Tweet. When you  re-tweet someone else’s Tweet, you give credit to them. For example, if you take the Tweet above about getting clients, and wanted to re-tweet it, you would Tweet:
RT @JenniferDavey Do you know the Key Steps to Getting #Clients http://tinyurl.com/qez932

Happy Twittering!
